Protective Services
There is an ever-increasing requirement for companies to operate in high-risk environments for commercial, foreign policy or development reasons; the effective management of those risks has become a fundamental requirement in business planning. The complexities of today’s security risks create a diverse matrix of interrelated threats, vulnerabilities, and impacts, and require a highly developed professional approach to risk mitigation and protection.
Sallyport provides global turnkey security services to a wide variety of clients, who require protection against threats to their assets, equities, information and structures. It has been performing security missions in Iraq, Central Asia, the Middle East and Africa since 2003, and has had no significant breaches of security on any of the sites on which it protects, or to any convoy or client that it has been protecting. In Iraq alone, Sallyport has conducted over 18,000 mobile security missions without loss of life to clients, Sallyport personnel, or Iraqi citizens. This performance, given the challenging operational environments Sallyport works in, is extra-ordinary, and something that it is justly proud.
Sallyport has over 1,900 employees from 11 different countries, across more than 30 different specialty areas. It has a footprint in South Africa, Southern Sudan, Djibouti, Iraq, Qatar, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan and Pakistan. This unique global reach and robust capability, allows Sallyport to deploy any number of static guards or fully experienced and equipped security personnel onto the ground within 30 days, worldwide; complete with monitoring and management services, life support, equipment, vehicles, and appropriate intelligence/threat analyses. This can be done in isolation, or as part of a bespoke contingency support package.
Sallyport’s security specialists largely come from American, South African and European military, police and intelligence backgrounds, and provide excellent management, technical advice, and on-the-ground expertise. Their experience in austere and high-threat environments, and their sensitivity to local culture and politics, gives clients the confidence to pursue their mission, knowing that their personnel and assets have the best possible protection.
Depending upon the mission, Sallyport also employs third country and local national static security guards to protect clients’ venues in the countries in which they operate. Every member of the Sallyport’s guard force is vetted by their own national government, further scrutinized by Sallyport, and then enrolled its own specialist security training scheme. This assures that all personnel are reputable, responsible, well trained, and work to the same professional and ethical standards.
In Iraq, Sallyport maintains a fully operational logistics and security operations center, managed by retired US Forces personnel. The center monitors and controls all operational activities around the clock, seven days a week. It utilizes multiple methods of communications, such as: Inmarsat, Thuraya, and VHF, and various tracking systems for moving entities. Sallyport’s intelligence department provides threat assessment and risk analysis on all areas of the operation, client workplaces, travel schedules, individuals, and prospective venues identified for permanent or semi-permanent occupation. The personnel at the center maintain good communications with Coalition resources, the US Embassy, and local Iraqi units, coordinating and sharing intelligence as required.
