Overview:
Sallyport Global Services Ltd., under the Air Force Contingency Augmentation Program (AFCAP) Contract working for URS is providing Joint Base Balad (JBB) and the 332nd ELRS/LGVM with all of the personnel and supervision necessary to manage a Vehicle Maintenance Apprenticeship Program for Iraqi Nationals. Sallyport's program is designed to train these individuals in not only maintenance but safety, quality control methods, stock control, facility maintenance and tool accountability. Our apprenticeship program is recognized by both the U.S. Air Force and by the Iraqi Ministry of Labor & Social Affairs or MOLSA. Our Instructors have a combined military service time of over 45 years in heavy, light wheeled, tracked and special vehicles. They are experts in the field of maintenance and training.
Scope of Services:
Sallyport is providing the Air Force with Iraqi Master Mechanics, Iraqi Apprentice Mechanics and Iraqi Translators to integrate directly into the ELSR/LRVM Squadron at JBB working side by side with Air Force Staff and our Instructors to provide a wide variety of heavy, medium and light duty repairs. Our Apprentice mechanics receive on-the-job and classroom training to better help them to understand the overall nature of American vehicle repair, with an emphasis on safety. This 'Real World' training will help better prepare these individuals to serve their country in the near future by receiving an all-encompassing Vehicle Maintenance education.
- LUBE SHOP: Inspect vehicle lighting systems, remove vehicle fluids and replace them with new fluids, check vehicle fluid levels and adjust them to manufacturer specifications, remove/replace canister and cartridge type filters, inspect/replace steering components, inspect/replace brake system components, inspect/replace suspension components, and inspect/repair/replace upholstery items. Service vehicle air conditioning systems. Inspect/repair/replace vehicle tires as required. Inspect/replace window wiper blades. Inspect/replace serpentine and v-type belts. Inspect/test/repair or replace charging system components.
- GLASS SHOP: Remove and install windows, windshields, and mirrors in accordance with manufacturer specifications, using various provided manual and power tools. Install items with adhesives and rubber seals.
- HEAVY/MEDIUM DUTY VEHICLE REPAIR: Work in the special purpose element, perform heavy/medium duty vehicle repair and maintenance, perform major repairs and maintenance on heavy mobile equipment and special purpose vehicles such as: aircraft tow tractors, latrine servicing vehicles, tugs and bobtails, sweepers, bulldozers, mobile cranes, road graders, heavy construction and earth moving vehicles, backhoes, power shovels, front end loaders, and trenchers. Diagnose the cause of mechanical failures by means of visual and auditory checks or using test equipment such as engine analyzers, compression testers, voltmeters, ohmmeters and pressure gauges in order to determine the exact nature or extent of repairs or adjustments necessary to complete work. Remove and disassemble engines and major systems/subsystems on fuel, hydraulic, air and oil systems. Make repairs, overhauls or modifications in accordance with the proper procedures and specifications. Reassemble engines and make adjustments, test and reinstall systems/subsystems in vehicles and equipment. Repair and/or replace body parts, locks, glass, etc., and determine if additional repairs are required. Comply with local occupational safety and health program, to include compliance with directives and procedures for proper disposal of hazardous waste products within the functional area. Operate general and special purpose vehicles and base maintenance and materials handling equipment, as required to support the unit mission.
- LIGHT DUTY VEHICLE REPAIR: Perform light duty vehicle maintenance, including the troubleshoot, repair, and/or overhaul major automotive components and systems such as engines, transmissions, differentials and transaxles, electronic fuel injection systems, emission control systems, and related electrical, electronic, hydraulic, fuel, and other assemblies. Tear down, adjust, repair, reassemble, and run operational checks on components of these systems following instructions contained in technical manuals. May specialize in tearing down, overhauling, and rebuilding one or a limited variety of major systems for a variety of vehicles, such as automobiles, trucks, buses, and tractors. Must be able to use a wide variety of test procedures and equipment to trace hard-to-locate defects or problems, and then complete repairs and installations with little or no technical advice.
- TOOL AND PARTS ATTENDANT: Identify user's tools, parts and equipment requirements and requisition stock as needed. Watch and report items that are in short supply because of breakage or because they are frequently out for repair. Recommend possible substitute or interchangeable items. Set up and maintain storage locations. Prepare periodic inventory and determine the basis for over, short, or misplaced items by checking such references as out-for-repair, issue, and turn-in records maintained in the tools and parts room. Ensure that tools and equipment are maintained in good condition by performing visual and operating checks, taking measurements with such devices as calipers, and receiving reports from users on the nature and extent of damage to tools and equipment. Determine stock replenishment levels for centrally controlled supplies and other material within funding limitations. Receive a wide variety of supplies and specialized items requiring special handling. Ensure that received items are properly stored in assigned locations. Search for identifying or management data on items of supply. Compare data listed on documents with reference sources such as federal catalogs, stock lists, or other publications. Edit supply transactions or provide customer service for urgent critical shortage items and other items requiring special handling when established procedures are not applicable.
- DETAIL SHOP: Work in the customer service element, clean vehicle interior and exterior surfaces to expectation of customer service NCOIC. Use a vacuum cleaner, mops, rags, glass cleaner, tire cleaner and tire dressing.
