Overview:
Al Udeid Air Base is a United States Air Force installation located 10 miles southwest of Doha, Qatar. The base was opened in 1996 to support U.S. military operations in ongoing overseas contingency operations. Sallyport, under the Air Force Contingency Augmentation Program (AFCAP) Contract working for URS, has integrated transportation services personnel into an operational Air Force Squadron known as the 379th Expeditionary Logistics Readiness Squadron (ELRS).
Scope of Services:
Sallyport's transportation services provides mission-essential ground transportation support to over 10,000 joint-combined and allied-service members assigned to and transitioning through Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar. Operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, this element offers and provides transient and permanently assigned aircrew ground transportation, base shuttle bus service, rotational passenger bus support, Doha International Airport shuttle, on/off-base distinguished visitor transportation services, tractor-trailer, material handling, and disabled vehicle recovery services. The men and women of Vehicle Operations pride themselves on providing first-class, prompt, reliable, and safe transportation services to the warfighter in support of the global war on terror.
- Aircrew Support: Supporting a monthly average of more than 2,700 assigned and transient aircrews, our personnel are the aircrew ground transportation specialists. We ensure aircrews meet mission requirements with an average 3 minute response time for unscheduled transportation request and a 100% on time response time for scheduled transportation requests.
- Base Shuttle Bus: Operating 5 buses on 2 routes, 24-hours a day; 365 days a year, our shuttle service safely transports a monthly average of more than 100,000 US and coalition forces. Our off base shuttle service safely transports military, Coalition and Contract personnel to/from Doha International Airport to the base for onward movement within the Area of Responsibility (AOR).
- Rotational Passenger Bus Support: Three times a year, the base is immersed in rotating forces throughout the AOR. During these periods, we transport over 100,000 passengers from the Aerial Port of Debarkation to transient lodging facilities and return.
- Distinguished Visitor Transportation: Our professional vehicle operators are tasked to provide both on/off-base distinguished visitor transportation services. We have provided this service to everyone from 4-star generals to the Secretary of the Air Force and his staff, and most recently to the Speaker of The House.
- Tractor-Trailer/Material Handling: You call/we haul! Our staff of professionally licensed heavy equipment operators utilizes tractor trailer combinations and forklifts ranging from 10 – 50K to move more than 8 million pounds of troop support equipment and material monthly.
- Disable Vehicle Retrieval: Whether routine or emergency disabled vehicle recovery, our Vehicle Recovery Team is responsible for safe and responsive retrieval for an average of 51 recoveries per month.
- Dispatch Function: Provides 24/7 vehicle operations control functions to more than 8K transportation requirements monthly. The focal point of all ground transportation requirements for the base, dispatch coordinates and controls an operational tempo that is unsurpassed anywhere in the AOR. We coordinate the movement of beans, boots, and bullets at an average of more than 8K transportation requests per month.
- Training: More than 1,700 man hours per month are contributed towards vehicle operator training of base and company personnel. The Operator Records and Licensing Section is responsible for providing local orientation and training for the entire base population. We provide government licensing services to more than 500 personnel each month.
- Equipment Support: We provide management, minor maintenance and operator care to the 139 vehicles assigned to the fleet that range from small pickup trucks all the way up to 50K pound forklift/container handling equipment. We are responsible for managing the building, compound, and equipment required to maintain and manage both USAF owned and leased vehicles in accordance with standards established by applicable Air Force Instructions. Equipment Support is also responsible for maintaining and operating the base vehicle care center.
